Special Giving Opportunity!

Dear Justice Seeker,
Our world and our denomination are mired in controversy and pain and people are living in unjust situations. Western Methodist Justice Movement (WMJM) is a movement of United Methodists in the annual conferences of the Western Jurisdiction who are committed to carry out the prophetic statements and actions of the Western Jurisdictional Conference of The United Methodist Church. We are writing to seek your financial support for the work that we do. WMJM functions with volunteers serving on a leadership team and an executive team, both of which meet electronically once/month. The primary work of WMJM is done through our Action Networks – areas of focus for action and strategy, made up of persons who are passionate about a particular action/strategy for increasing justice in our church and in our world. (Download the letter in PDF.)
The leadership team and conveners of Action Networks meet face-to-face once every year. We have also hosted two weekend events over the past five years, with the goal of bringing people together from around the Western Jurisdiction, and beyond, to do the work of justice.
As we move toward the special General Conference in 2019, we are highly aware that the future of our denomination is at stake. WMJM will again be working as a part of the Love Your Neighbor Coalition (LYNC) in support of a church that welcomes all people in all ways during this watershed in our denomination’s history.
In order to do this work, and to support our action networks in their on-going work, we are launching this fundraising campaign. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to help fund our work over the next year. We invite you to be a part of this on-going work and make a donation today. You can donate by going to our website and making an electronic donation, wmjm.org; or you can send a check directly to: Richard Bentley, 15563 Newton St., Hacienda Heights, CA 91745. Please make checks out to MFSA, our fiscal sponsor and indicate donation is for WMJM.
Our current action networks include...
The Earth and Neighbors Action Network is creating a network of churches to unite with existing climate action/environmental groups, to disseminate information and build new networks. Recognizing that our local action has a global effect, this Action Network builds global relationships to form a united front with those most affected by environmental problems.
The Just Love Action Network works to fulfill the mandate of Biblical Obedience in defiance of unjust laws, especially those that single out members of the LGBTQI community. We are called to minister to the unministered, proclaiming love for all in the name of Jesus Christ.
The Documented by Love Action Network focuses on action around global migration/immigration. This focus includes: Sanctuary churches; educating ourselves, our churches, our annual conferences, and our jurisdiction on migration/immigration issues; providing resources; and recognizing the human dignity of all.
The Life Choices Action Network bases its work on two primary values: the dignity of each individual’s own conscience (Human beings must always be allowed to obey the certain judgments of their conscience.); and the love and care of people for their bodies.
The Colonialism/Imperialism Action Network focuses on issues related to imperialism of one nation over another and in our churches. Its current concerns and action focuses on our African Central Conferences and The Philippines Central Conference.
The Rapid Response to Events Action Network focuses on issues that need a quick response, such as joining an upcoming rally, contacting a public official at the national, state, or local level, or calling members of the community into action.
The Child Sex Trafficking Action Network focuses on the "trafficking" of children for sex – a form of slavery.
The Undocumented Student Resources Action Network focuses on developing resources that will be helpful to undocumented students.
Your partnership in doing the work of Western Methodist Justice Movement is crucial to living out the story of our faith as we seek to share Jesus’ radical love for all humanity. Join us in this on-going work and make a donation today. Ask yourself: Am I doing all I can to make a difference in the world? Your financial support, your prayers and your participation in the work of WMJM is one of your opportunities to make a difference in the world.
