WMJM Adopts New Purpose; Plans Bylaws Update; Seeks Membership Suggestion
WMJM Leadership Team has adopted a new purpose statement for the Western Methodist Justice Movement:
Western Methodist Justice Movement (WMJM) creates and coordinates opportunities to learn together, organize, and mobilize progressive United Methodists in the Western Jurisdiction, to work for justice, peace, and equity for all persons, both within and beyond The United Methodist Church.
WMJM is governed by a Leadership Team and Bylaws (PDF here). The WMJM Leadership Team has a maximum number of 25 members, and there are currently openings for new members.
At the latest WMJM Executive Team meeting, it was proposed to modify the WMJM Bylaws to make nominations to the Leadership Team a bit easier. The proposed amendment is here (PDF). If you have suggestions or thoughts after reading it, please send them to this email address by November 2.
The Leadership Team is meeting on November 3 to consider the proposed amendment to the Bylaws. If this amendment is adopted, it will also immediately begin to work on nominees for the Leadership Team.
Here is a part of the bylaws which address membership on the Leadership Team:
Persons shall be nominated to the Leadership Team based on their ability to provide leadership for WMJM’s program areas as well as – to the extent possible - meet concerns for balancing the composition of the Leadership Team in the areas of sexual identity and gender expression, ethnicity, class, geography, age and physical capabilities.
Please consider persons who you think would be effective advocates for justice in the world, including especially the United Methodist Church and its Western Jurisdiction, and send their names and contact information to this email address. Please send your suggestions by Monday, November 2.
