WMJM Stands with Central Conference Voices to Decry Vote Manipulation
Leadership of the Western Methodist Justice Movement (WMJM) stand with Central Conference Bishops and other Central Conference voices in decrying the attempt by the Wesleyan Covenant Association (WCA) and other conservative organizations to manipulate the processes of General Conference by offering to expedite vaccines for voting delegates from outside the United States.
As described in letters from Central Conference Bishops and other African Voices, the offer of funding to access vaccination is a blatantly colonial move that is designed to meet the needs of the WCA, not the people struggling to survived the ravages of the Covid-19 pandemic around the world.
In a United Methodist News article, the General Commission on General Conference is quoted objecting to, "the appearance of perceived or real influence of the vote of General Conference delegates on any number of matters under consideration…”
WMJM urges United Methodists to support the official Covid Vaccination program of The United Methodist Church, “Love Beyond Borders” through Advance Special giving to fund #3022671. In less than three months, United Methodists have contributed about $240,000 to the Love Beyond Borders Advance.
