Friends of Wadi Foquin Update

With the new Trump Administration looming, and the ongoing assault on Gaza, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smoltrich has announced intentions to officially annex the West Bank.  Palestinians on the ground know the reality of what systemic annexation and colonization means.  Wadi Foquin is a prime example of this settler colonialism.

WMJM recently co-sponsored an online event with Friends of Wadi Foquin and Sogorea Te Land Trust on October 24th on the theme "Protecting Sacred Land"  highlighting the similarities of historical colonization of Native American land with what is taking place today in Palestine.  The link to the recording of the event can be found here.   https://youtu.be/f0HXGsUidq8

The gradual takeover of land has included a proposed apartheid road to go through the village to build up the transportation infrastructure of the illegal settlement of Betar Illit.  Court hearings were held on May 20th and September 11th to hear objections to the road.  Among those who registered objections were Senators Peter Welch, Bernie Sanders, Chris Van Hollen, and Brian Schatz, along with and several members of the House.  Over 100 people joined online for the September 11th hearing to show international solidarity.  We have received word that the road approval has been delayed and will now move through several administrative committees.  This is an unusual step, and a minor victory in  delaying construction and takeover of farm land.

As this process continues forward there has also been an increased presence of soldiers in the village conducting home raids, and protecting settlers as they encroach upon farm land as if it were their own.  Friends of Wadi Foquin is inviting supporters to become part of "protective presence teams" made up of 5-6 persons to travel to Wadi Foquin.  We are also preparing for a larger Peace delegation as well.

We continue to support economic survival with fundraising for key projects including the Green Valley Grocery Store and Tomor Al-Amal (dates).  During this holiday season we will support the soccer club providing equipment and practice jerseys for children and youth to participate in recreation as a form of therapy in the midst of violence and military occupation.

Join us on November 30th at 10 a.m. Pacific/8 p.m. Palestine for a live online update from the village via zoom.  Please email michaelyoshii1@gmail.com to RSVP to receive the zoom link.
