Friends of Wadi Foquin Update
With the new Trump Administration looming, and the ongoing assault on Gaza, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smoltrich has announced intentions to officially annex the West Bank. Palestinians on the ground know the reality of what systemic annexation and colonization means. Wadi Foquin is a prime example of this settler colonialism.
Where do we go from here?
It is important to remember that we are not the first followers of Jesus to face a government hostile to their values.
WMJM President Witnesses and Reflects on UM Africa Forum
The members of the group came from most of the annual conferences in Africa. Many of those who attended were meeting each other for the first time. They were clergy and lay people with different language and culture backgrounds, although they were all good at conversations in English, and there were a variety of theological viewpoints. What united them was the desire to remain in the United Methodist Church. “We were, we are, and we will be United Methodist” was a reoccurring refrain throughout the meeting.
Christmas Covenant Updates
The Western Methodist Justice Movement has been a supporter of the Christmas Covenant legislation since its inception in December 2019. If passed, it transforms central conferences into regional conferences and creates a U.S. regional conference that would allow these regions to design ministry for their particular missional contexts.
African Leaders Organizing so Regionalization can Really Happen
The United Methodist Africa Forum (UMAF) is organizing an inaugural gathering this April 21-23, 2023 in Johannesburg, South Africa. UMAF is gathering United Methodists from across Africa dedicated to promoting unity and the future of the UMC in Africa.
Listening Bears Fruit and Strengthens Connection
Participants engaged in focused conversations, worship and Bible study together to deepen the understanding and relationships with one another. It became a time, not only of sharing, but also deep intentional listening where participants engaged with one another in a world-wide conversation lifting issues and concerns related to various contexts, especially those facing The United Methodist Church outside of the United States.

WMJM at the Western Jurisdictional Conference
Keeping its vision centered on justice, the Western Methodist Justice Movement has been working in the last several years to support collaborative ways for laity and clergy to work together to do mission and ministry, especially intersectional justice, across the jurisdiction.
As the call was made for the 2022 Jurisdictional conference and the election of bishops, WMJM looked for ways to keep justice in the conversation in collaborative ways.

“Reconnecting for Justice” was the theme of a half-day event hosted by Western Methodist Justice Movement (WMJM) on November 1, 2022, one day before the 2022 Western Jurisdictional Conference meeting began.
