WMJM Hosts Discussion on Prospective Delegates — Register Now

The Western Jurisdiction conferences have announced that voting for the next round of delegates will begin this June. The Western Methodist Justice Movement is hosting online forums about the role of General Conference (GC) and Jurisdictional Conference (JC) delegates on Saturday, April 18 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific and Sunday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m. Pacific. Participants will hear from current GC and JC delegates about what delegates do and what makes a strong delegate.

The church and the world are facing many difficult social justice challenges, from turmoil in the Middle East to inequality in the United States. General Conference is the only body that can speak for the worldwide United Methodist Church (UMC). After the length of service of the current delegates, significant turnover is expected across conference delegations. Those who want to help shape how the UMC responds to these social justice challenges and help guide the future of the UMC are encouraged to attend the online forums to determine whether running to be a delegate is a good fit.

Those who feel called to help shape how the UMC responds to today’s challenges are invited to attend one of the online forums or if they want to learn who they should invite in their annual conference to run for election. These gatherings offer a clear and welcoming place to discern whether running for delegate is the right fit. The Western Jurisdiction is represented by only 20 of the 708 General Conference delegates, so strong candidates are needed to step forward.
